Description

Monsoons can hit the desert out of the blue, and they hit its baked hardpan mercilessly. The land is so flat, floodwaters don’t run off easily — but they will find a way. It will be a way of the waters’ own choosing, too — when at last they concede impending disaster, people scramble to move aside with their pets and livestock.

One year, storms off in the mountains were the last straw for an aging dam up there. It dumped its load in one fell rush that spread for miles. People were paddling canoes along the roadside that year.

The title? Hint: one proper noun and one verb. Words playing around… a bit like she is.
